How to Be Your Own Casino

Do you like to gamble?  I occasionally spin a coin in the slots, as they say.  I'm not much of a card player but I know I can drop a few hundred dollars at a casino when the mood takes me.  After thinking about my last round of losses I imagined what it would be like if I had my own casino.  Then I could be the boss of my own fortunes, right?


The funny thing is, you can be your own casino in many states.  Wikipedia has an article that shows you which states allow you to own slot machines.

If you have enough money to buy 2-3 of these machines you can set up your own private gaming parlor in your basement, garage, or family room.  Now this may not seem like the way to run a casino but you cannot legally do that.  And I don't want to advise anyone to break any laws.

What I realized is that if I put all the money I have played on slots into my own machines I would have a nice little pool of savings after a few years.  And no one could tax that money when I win a jackpot.  Isn't that pretty cool?

You can play with Susan B. Anthony dollar coins or quarters.  It doesn't really matter.  But once you get your little gaming parlor set up you can enjoy it whenever you like.

Of course there will be the temptation to invite your friends over for a "casino night".  I don't think you want to let them walk away with your savings account so you might change the machines to be penny slots or maybe to use tokens.

But think about it.  You can set up a pretty nice gaming parlor:

1. Install 3 slot machines.
2. Set up a card playing table.
3. Even buy a roulette table.
4. Install a bar for drinks and snacks.

This will set you back a few thousand dollars so it's a dream hobby that will take a couple of years to achieve.  I would begin by building the bar and putting a nice television in the room.  Next I would add a card playing table.  Then I would go for the roulette game.

The slot machines will be the most expensive investment and you should leave them for last.

This is all for your personal entertainment.  If you're going to gamble why not give yourself the house edge?  I think that would be a pretty good investment.  It keeps all the money in the family.

Here are some suggestions to get started.  First, you have a coaster bar with some gaming accessories.  The roulette wheel is made of plastic so you'll want to get a better wheel than that.  And I also suggest a nice Hold'em Poker table, which can double as your roulette table.

Always do this only for entertainment.  Once you get it set up the temptation to run your own little gaming house might set in but people go to jail for that.  Don't throw your life away for something stupid.  This is about having fun and not blowing your money at casinos all the time.
